Storm at Five Rivers
Here I am at the top of Wyndham's look out watching one of the best lightning shows we have ever seen! Sitting in the car as it seemed the safest option at the time, having a couple cold drinks and a few snacks to chomp on whilst admiring the storm roll past.
My good friend Shaun who owns the land cruiser refused to let me place my drink on the dash whilst trying to make a good snack selection.
I had my left arm out the rolled down window holding onto my drink thinking of where I could safely put it down.
BANG! A cracking thought shot into my mind like one of the lightning bolts around us
"If only there was a bar attached to the side of the car I wouldn't have a problem..."
Ground Floor Production
Once the storm blew over I went away and thought about how I could turn the funny idea into a reality!
What it would take to do that?
To be honest, I only ran with the idea for so long as I thought it would be funny to show Shaun that I no longer required the dash of his car. I wanted to prove a point and then throw it away once the joke was over.
I tell you now, the joke was well and truly over by the time this photo was taken. This would be 2.5 years after the storm and hundreds of ideas for how I could make it work and also look good.
I finally got myself a slab of local african mahogany and cut it down until I was happy with the outcome. I had no idea what I was doing or how to use the second hand machinery I bought from an older fella.
Uniquely Hand Crafted
How the smooth edge of the La Karbah™ came about.
Of course I become so caught up on the idea of how to make it functionally work I forgot that I was also trying to make them look good!
Each La Karbah™ is uniquely hand crafted, with absolutely no chance of the same features being replicated in anyway possible.
The growth of the wood, the colours it presents to the tiny little dark detailed hair lines running with the grain.
Nothing is as more unique than this right here!
I sat on this idea for a little while longer as I had never seen something like this or heard about a product that solve such an important problem.
I figured I put this much time into the joke, I might as well make some for my friends and family to see what they think.
The feedback was constructive and I made a few adjustments to the Uniquely Hand Crafted (joke) called a La Karbarh™
The First Order
Okay! so 3 years on... I finally Raised the Bar and had a few in stock ready to sell!
The guy on the left of this photo is myself and the man on the right is Myron.
Myron played a huge roll in helping me understand how wood characteristics work and how and what tools I would require.
I'm just some young grasshopper without a trade certificate throwing wood around hoping for the best, but Myron, he's a qualified legend!
I gifted Myron a La Karbah™ as it was the least I could do for all his patience and knowledge, In return he put an order in that night for 5 more. They were presents for his family and friends.
